Bread
  • 8 slices thick bread (brioche or challah)
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter for greasing the baking dish

Method
 

  1. Prepare the strawberries by washing, hulling, and slicing them. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Arrange the bread slices in a greased baking dish, pour the custard mixture over the bread, and scatter the strawberries on top.
  4. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and set.
  6. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
