- Prepare the oranges by removing the zest with a vegetable peeler, aiming for long strips.
- Make the sugar syrup by combining orange zest, water, and granulated sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and then simmer for 30 minutes.
- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract and salt, then transfer zest to a wire rack to cool for 1 hour.
- Roll cooled zest in granulated sugar until well coated, then place back on the wire rack to dry for 2 hours.
