  • 24 ounces marinara sauce This is the heart of the baked ziti.
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese Adds creaminess and richness.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Essential for that gooey topping.
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese Adds a sharp, nutty flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Enhances the flavor profile.

Method
 

  1. Prep the ingredients by dicing the onion and mincing the garlic.
  2. Cook the ziti pasta in boiling salted water until al dente, about 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat, then stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked ziti, ricotta cheese, and half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Mix well, then add the meat sauce and stir until combined.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
