Ingredients

Saltine Crackers
  • 2 cups saltine crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 0.5 cup chopped nuts (optional, like pecans or walnuts)

Equipment

  • Medium Saucepan
  • baking sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • spatula

Method

  1. Gather all your ingredients: saltine crackers, unsalted butter, brown sugar, chocolate chips, and sea salt.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the unsalted butter and packed brown sugar. Place over medium heat and stir constantly until it comes to a boil. Let it bubble for 3 minutes without stirring.
  4. Pour the hot caramel mixture over the arranged saltine crackers and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  5. Bake the crackers for 5-7 minutes until the caramel is bubbly. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Let sit for 2-3 minutes to soften, then spread the melted chocolate evenly.
  6. Sprinkle sea salt on top and allow to cool at room temperature for 30 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour to set. Break into pieces and serve.
